Shopping Around For Your New HDTV

HDTVs have become very popular very quickly, and with the switchover from analogue to digital by broadcasters very shortly, the need for a digital television is not one based purely on aesthetics. Certainly there us a great deal to be said as far as design is concerned for having a smart flat panel mounted on the wall in the living room, and it takes up a great deal less space as well. But there is more to simply choosing the size colour of the frame of your new HDTV, and some of the options can be a little confusing to the unwary and those still reeling from the shock of seeing television in colour.

The first thing is that not all HDTVs are built equally. There are different levels of quality, and different ways of formatting the picture. These differences are too technical to be included in this article, but if you are in the market to buy a new HDTV it would be well worth your while purchasing a magazine that can give you reviews and advice on current models, or doing a little more research online.

One of the most obvious choices that you will need to make is whether to go for a traditional looking direct view or tube television, or a flat panel. The advantage of direct view is that they are usually much cheaper. They also offer better contrast of colour with darker shades (in other words black looks blacker) and the viewing angle is much greater. This means that in a living room it will make no difference where you sit, whereas with some flat panel televisions if you sit anywhere other than directly in front of it you tend to get a loss of detail, loss of colour and eventually loss of the picture entirely.

Make sure you are aware of the difference between flat panel and flat screen televisions – because they are not one and the same thing. All too often people tend to use the terms interchangeably, but they are quite different. Flat screen televisions are simply standard televisions with a large tube, but instead of the base of the tube (the screen) being convex (curved), it is completely flat. This gives a sharper and less distorted picture. Flat panel televisions on the other hand are the very narrow type which can be mounted on the wall and take up very little depth at all. The screens are also flat, but unlike the tube sets, there is almost no depth to the television itself.

Another thing to look for is the choice of flat panel HDTVs between LCD and Plasma. The LCD televisions will be very much cheaper, but offer a very narrow viewing angle. Plasma television sets have a wider viewing angle, which suits more homes that have wide living rooms rather than narrow ones. The problem with Plasma televisions though is that they are prone to ‘image burn’/. This is where an image, if displayed on the screen constantly for an extended period of time, it can become burned onto the screen so that it is still partially visible at all times. This can cause unwanted ghosting and deterioration of the picture. This is more likely if the screen is used to play video games, as many games have portions of the screen where buttons, options and menus sit that are always visible and can end up being displayed for hours at a time.

HDTV Buying Tips

Shopping for the right HDTV is not an easy task – it can be quite daunting. What features are important when making a decision? How do you compare different models of TVs? How do you make sense of it all? This article should help you understand the ins and outs of shopping for a HDTV.

Understanding some of the technical specifications of high definition televisions will make it easier to select the right one for you. First, make a selection based on native resolution (this is the number of horizontal pixels by vertical pixels the has the capability to display.) TVs with a higher native resolution produce a better picture. Sets with a 1080p display have a native resolution of 1920×1080 – anything lower than 720p is not truly a high definition television. Luckily HD TV prices have dropped significantly over the years, which means you can have your cake and eat it too.

The next item to consider with HDTV TVs is contrast ratio. What this boils down to is the difference between a white pixel and a black pixel (or the brightest image to the darkest). Again, the higher the ratio the better off you’ll be when it comes to HD TV. If you select a 1080p TV, a contrast ratio of 10,000:1 is stellar – the picture quality of these TVs will blow you away. But there is one thing to watch out for when researching the contrast ratio of a HD TV. Sometimes the manufacturer will advertise a 10,000 or 15,000 ratio that really refers to the dynamic contrast ratio of the TVs, which is different. This is something to look out for when searching for a LCD HD because with a LCD television the contrast ratio tends to be on the low side. The dynamic ratio only reflects the amount of dark and bright luminosity that the television produces over a period of time.

Next, consider selecting from HDTVs with standard definition. Most people still watch many forms of media that are not made for high definition TV, so this is an important feature to have. Although HDTVs can display standard definition from DVDs, VHS, and satellite and cable, the picture quality is not up to par. Televisions that are designed to play standard definition are a better investment.

The video processor is also important. The computer inside the LCD HDTV is the brain behind high definition television – it processes the high definition TV signals coming into the set and displays them on the screen. If this part of the system is not up to scratch, the picture quality will suffer, no matter how good the other specifications are. A cheap HDTV processor leads to a disappointing experience. HD televisions are meant to be high quality. The easiest way to research processors is to read reviews on High Definition televisions and find out what the experts say about picture quality for each system you are considering. Whether purchasing a LCD, or any of the other HD TVs available, research is key.

Samsung LN46A650 LCD 46-Inch HDTV Review- Do Not Buy LN46A650 TV Until You Read This!

I purchased this Samsung LN46A650 LCD TV some time after it was available at Amazon and it is everything I have really expected. I spent more than a year and a half researching flat panel TVs. I came close to buying a Samsung 71F series, but then I decided to hold and do more even more research on those models. I was almost about to purchase the 5 series, but when I found out that it doesn’t actually have 120hz refresher rate, I decided that I better research the 6 series and ended buying Samsung LN46A650 LCD TV.

As you have probably read outside of the several hundred dollar premium for the Sony brand, the main difference is that the Samsungs specially have a shiny screen so in high light rooms there can be some reflection compared to the matte XBR screens. I generally can control the light levels during the time I’m viewing the TV so the vibrancy of the Samsung in mid/low light conditions made me choose Samsung LN46A650 LCD TV.

The appearance of the bezel of this set even received attention with an amazing piano black finish that includes a hint of beautiful amber color giving the TV an original artistic style for a great accent to home decor.

First you’ll find immediately that the picture processing power of this Samsung LN46A650 LCD TV is really astounding. The set contains a 50,000:1 contrast ratio in addition to a blazing-fast 4 ms response time. Equally as important is the Samsung’s Auto Motion Plus 120Hz technology which functions to eliminate motion blur in film and television and adds frames to images . This TV is highly great for the fast moving action that shows on television, movies, and video games. Samsung LN46A650 LCD TV also has 1080p/24 support which brings video imagery one step closer to exactly recreating the original photography of film when combined with a compatible Blu-ray player. All of these combined processing this TV incredible detail and clarity when compared to other LCD TVs and it undoubtedly has to be seen to be believed.

This TV offers a plethora of inputs including 2 components, VGA, 3 HDMI , and even standard composite to satisfy and meet all sorts of connection needs. Additional features for Samsung LN46A650 LCD TV include a unique “InfoLink” feature that allows the TV to grab weather forecasting , stock quotes , news updates , and sports scores from the internet when it is connected through the included Ethernet port to a home network. Another incredible feature is the “WiseLink” feature which allows direct play of music and view of images when a USB Thumb Drive is connected to this TV’s USB port.

Sharp Aquos LC42D65U 42 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

I bought this Pointy Aquos LC42D65U 42 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV 2 weeks before Yuletide , on a VERY strict budget. ( My wife’s cash ) I’m employed In the AV industry, ( commercial design and installation ) and I was beat, of working with stuff, that was far out of my budget. I have worked with the 52″ version before, and It actually looked great. The picture on the Pointy Aquos LC42D65U 42″ is very sharp. buy lcd hdtv

The Inputs, are absolutely adequate. Even including RS232 and USB port for firmware updates. HDMI’s out the wazoo. All the inputs are located in extraordinarily accessible places. Including the Television’s control buttons on the right side of the bezel. The “picture frame” bezel, rocks! I really **** looking at a wide, glossy, distracting bezel, that is common on flat-panals. This one, is thin with hard lines. Very professional looking. Why not have a great looking TV to match the quality of the picture on it?

Anyway, I was often anxious that most other Aquos models were 120Hz. Blu-Ray and Gaming, were the concern’s in my final call on what to buy. The standard for Blu-Ray is 1080p/24Hz. Your Totally Covered! Killer refresh rate! Great performance! Especially when used with a Aquos Blu-Ray player. Oh, yea did I bring up the mix, not only works together ( thru “Aquos Link” ), but is also one of the least expensive 1080p $975.00 Blu-Ray $200.00 combo’s. I got what I wanted, without having to “settle”. The absence of the fifth star on my review, was for the sound. Kinda stinks. Although, not so bad I would not suggest this to anybody. MOSTLY, all flat panel speakers pong. I adore this Pointy Aquos LC42D65U Television regardless. I wold endorse it to anyone.

Sharp Aquos LC42D65U 42 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Feature

The AQUOS LC42D65U sets a new standard for large-screen flat panel Televisions . With Full HD 1080p resolution and a chic new design, it produces a breathtaking picture definition that is unique. The LC42D65U utilizes Sharp’s proprietary Advanced Super View/Black TFT Panel with Spectral Contrast Engine, providing high Dynamic Contrast Proportion , 6ms reply time and wide viewing angles (176?H x 176?V ). The LC42D65U is HDTV with built-in ATSC / QAM / NTSC tuners and include five HDMI? Inputs, compatible with 1080p signals, and 2 HD 1080p element video inputs. Rear Projection HDTV: Good Enough

HDTVs have changed the face of television viewing. The HV’s possess a screen, which can match the size of projectors, and movie screens. And not just that, but they also include crystal clear pictures and Dolby Digital 5.1 stereophonic sounds, apart from the mammoth flat and wide screen. The types of HDTV’s are also varied, ranging from CRT and DLP to LCD and Plasma HDTV. A large number of leading TV manufacturers have also produced many interesting models. Many competitors like Samsung, Sony and Pioneer continue to one up each other with amazing picture quality and sleek design.

Being the number one electronics manufacturer in the world, Samsung has managed to gain a lot of market share and also become the official HDTV of the NFL. HDTV being a drastic launch from the ordinary television sets, they are seen as quite beyond the reach of the usual customer. But makers are trying to downscale the prices to accommodate everyone. The rear-projection TV (RPTV) is made with such an aim. These models are based on DLP technologies as developed by Texas Instruments. The particular model mentioned above includes TI’s latest chip designed on the lines of DLP, yielding better pictures at the same time. This model is one of the very first to use the new HD3 .55-inch micro-display of TI. It has a reduced chip size and a resultant cheaper cost of the chip. Large manufacturers takes into account four factors to determine the standard of the display performance which are contrast ratio, grayscale linearity, RGB color response and color temperature linearity. These factors significantly help towards ensuring that the display is able to distinguish between the subtleties in colors.

If you are an impule shopper or **** spending hours researching TV’s, sticking to a brand name manufacturer is probably your best bet. If you are a more picky shopper, you will want to visit various HDTV review websites to determine which one will be best for your home. You can choose between rear projection (which is usually cheaper) or you can go all out for a LCD or Plasma flat panel which will cost you more but typically have a better picture.

Although the picture of a rear projection HDTV isn’t quite as impressive, you may notice that you can save hundreds or thousands of dollars for the same size TV over a LCD or Plasma flat panel. For the average TV watcher, a rear projection is usually leaps and bounds above your old CRT monitor.

How To Make A Smart Choice With Our DVD Players Review

The technology for dvd players has been around long enough now that it has matured and most dvd players on the market these days can be considered quality units with solid, useful features. But some are better than others. We decide to review dvd players that are available today and see which ones offer the best value for the buck.

If you read most independent reviews of dvd players these days it becomes apparent that the top manufacturers including Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba and Apex all produce excellent quality equipment that perform consistently well. However one trend becomes apparent though. Many dvd players are sold with DVI(digital visual interface) or HDMI(high-definition multimedia interface) as an alternative to the composite and S-video connections commonly seen on dvd players in the past. The difference is supposed to be that the DVI and HDMI connections are straight digital to digital connections when used with HDTVs, whereas the digital signal is converted to analog for transmission through a S-video and composite video cable and then converted back to digital on HDTVs. This is supposed to provide cleaner video since it avoids the conversions between analog and digital.

However many consumer reviewers report that the difference just isn’t all that apparent and may not be worth paying the extra money for the DVI or HDMI connections. So most people can actually do just fine with most conventionally priced dvd players on the market instead.

Here are a few models that have scored well in many dvd player reviews:

1. A very popular and inexpensive dvd player is the Pioneer DV-578A. It is a progressive scan player which has a component video output for improved video performance and a built in Dolby 5.1 surround sound decoder. It also is capable of playing various DVD formats including DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW and both CD-R and CD-RW as well. It’s a high quality versatile single disc player that would do a great job in any home entertainment setup. Cost – around $100.

2. The JVC XV-N510B is another dvd player in this single disc category that rates very highly on many consumer dvd player reviews. It also can use component video outputs for better video display, supports both Dolby and DTS 5.1 surround sound as well as virtual surround sound for those that have only a two speaker system, and features audio dynamic range control to help limit excessively loud sounds. It also displays practically all DVD disc formats that you could use even including DVD-RAM. Cost – around $120.

When you read a dvd player rating here on the web or elsewhere you often see these two models listed very highly and given excellent reviews. So why pay more for features that don’t really offer more value? By choosing models like the ones mentioned above and their counterparts you can get great performance and great value in the same package.

The Samsung LN46A650 LCD TV is an incredible TV and it is certainly a marvel of our modern technology.
